For those of you going to Sequoia later this week, it will be nice to escape from the SoCal heat, but for those of us still here Thursday – let’s cool down and make ice paintings and unfold the mystery of EVAPORATION.
Freeze some ice cubes with food coloring to make IcePaints. Fill up your tray of ice cubes and put one drop of food coloring in each cube. Or just bring ice cubes and a package of jello to coat the melting ice in the colored powder and roll onto the paper and create colorful images. Everyone loves this kind of finger painting.
For a fingerless painting style, bring a tray or baking pan with edges and roll a few cubes around like marbles, or one at a time after you have placed a fresh piece of paper at the bottom of the tray. Your painting will magically build upon itself.
I will also bring some squirters to write and paint the sidewalk and watch it disappear during evaporation. yes, I will turn it into understanding the molecular journey of water and other fluids in the energy transfer called – EVAPORATION!
